Samsung launches the Galaxy Watch 9 with Snapdragon Wear Elite, 3,000-nit AMOLED display, Wear OS 7, advanced health tracking, and a $379 starting price.
Samsung has officially unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 during the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event held in London on July 22, 2026, introducing a premium smartwatch that combines a redesigned look, powerful performance, and advanced health tracking features. Designed to make everyday wellness monitoring easier, the Galaxy Watch 9 brings a new level of intelligence to Samsung's wearable lineup by automatically tracking health and fitness data throughout the day with minimal user effort.
The smartwatch follows Samsung's "Just wear it" philosophy, allowing users to monitor their overall health without interrupting their daily routine. Starting at $379, the Galaxy Watch 9 will officially be available beginning August 7, 2026.
The new smartwatch is available in 40mm and 44mm sizes, giving users the flexibility to choose a model that best suits their preferences. The 40mm version comes in Graphite and Cream color options, while the 44mm model is offered in Graphite and Silver. Samsung has also introduced interchangeable strap options, allowing users to personalize the watch to match their style.
One of the biggest highlights of the Galaxy Watch 9 is its upgraded display. The 40mm model features a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 438 × 438 pixels, while the larger 44mm model offers a 1.47-inch Super AMOLED display with a 480 × 480 pixel resolution. Both displays deliver an impressive 3,000 nits peak brightness, making the screen easier to read even under direct sunlight. To improve durability, Samsung has protected both models with Sapphire Crystal Glass, helping guard against scratches and everyday wear.
Powering the Galaxy Watch 9 is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite processor, built on an advanced 3nm manufacturing process. The new Penta-Core chipset delivers faster performance, smoother multitasking, improved battery efficiency, and better support for AI-powered health features. Samsung has paired the processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage, providing enough performance for smartwatch apps, fitness tracking, music storage, navigation, and everyday use.
Health monitoring continues to be the biggest focus of the Galaxy Watch 9. Samsung has enhanced its wellness platform with several new software features while retaining its comprehensive BioActive Sensor technology. One of the standout additions is Sleep Apnea Detection, which monitors breathing patterns during sleep and can notify users if it detects signs that may indicate potential sleep apnea, encouraging them to seek professional medical advice. The watch also introduces a new Heart Health Score, which analyzes Heart Rate Variability (HRV), Daily Cardiovascular Load, long-term heart health trends, and other key metrics to provide users with a broader understanding of their cardiovascular wellness.
The Galaxy Watch 9 also supports Blood Pressure Monitoring, allowing users to measure their blood pressure directly from their wrist in just a few moments while remaining still. Samsung's advanced BioActive Sensor further enables features such as ECG, Continuous Heart Rate Monitoring, Blood Oxygen (SpO₂) Measurement, Body Composition Analysis (BIA), Skin Temperature Tracking, Heart Rate Variability (HRV), and an Antioxidant Index. Additional onboard sensors include an Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, Barometer, Altimeter, and Ambient Light Sensor, making the smartwatch capable of tracking a wide range of health and environmental data.
Fitness enthusiasts will also benefit from several new training features introduced with the Galaxy Watch 9. Samsung's Advanced Running Coach provides personalized workout guidance based on each user's fitness level, offering Personalized Pace Recommendations, Stride Analysis, Posture Feedback, Performance Improvement Suggestions, and Strava Route Integration. Whether users are beginners or experienced runners, the watch adapts its coaching to match individual goals. Samsung has also introduced a new Fitness Index, which evaluates workout readiness across Five Fitness Dimensions to help users determine whether they should train intensely or prioritize recovery.
Another useful addition is Daily Energy Tracking, which analyzes health information collected throughout the day to estimate overall energy levels. Based on these insights, the smartwatch can recommend whether users are better suited for exercise, work, social activities, or rest. During the night, the Galaxy Watch 9 tracks Five Key Biometrics to establish a personalized health baseline and monitors changes in Heart Rate Variability (HRV), Sleep Quality, Overnight Recovery, Cardiovascular Stress, and Overall Wellness. These results are presented through Samsung's updated Vitals Dashboard, giving users a clearer picture of their long-term health trends.
Samsung has also improved battery life with larger battery capacities than the previous generation. The 40mm Galaxy Watch 9 features a 390mAh battery, a noticeable increase from the previous model's 325mAh battery, while the 44mm version includes a 445mAh battery. Both models support 10W Fast Wireless Charging, allowing users to recharge more quickly and spend less time connected to a charger.
On the software side, the Galaxy Watch 9 runs Wear OS 7 combined with Samsung One UI 9 Watch, delivering smoother performance, improved notifications, enhanced Galaxy AI integration, updated Samsung Health features, and more personalized wellness recommendations. Connectivity has also been upgraded with support for Bluetooth 6.0, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, Dual-Frequency GPS (L1 + L5), NFC, and optional LTE (eSIM) connectivity on supported models, providing faster wireless communication and more accurate location tracking.
The smartwatch has been built with durability in mind, featuring an Armor Aluminum Case and Sapphire Crystal Display Protection. It carries IP68 Dust and Water Resistance, 5ATM Water Resistance, and MIL-STD-810H Military-Grade Durability, making it suitable for a variety of outdoor and fitness activities.
