Samsung has officially introduced its most advanced foldable
smartphone of 2026, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, during the Galaxy
Unpacked event held in London on July 22, 2026. The new
flagship represents Samsung's biggest leap in foldable smartphone technology,
combining an ultra-thin premium design, powerful flagship performance,
an upgraded 200MP camera system, a larger battery, and the latest
Galaxy AI features. Making it one of the most
significant upgrades to the Galaxy Fold lineup in recent years.
Designed for professionals, content creators, gamers, and multitaskers, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra focuses on delivering a premium experience while remaining slimmer and lighter than its predecessors. Samsung has redesigned the phone using a new Flex Titanium alloy film that is around 20 times stiffer than previous materials while being only about one-third the thickness of a human hair. The company says refined micro-pattern holes help distribute pressure more evenly across the foldable display, improving durability over time.
Samsung has also introduced a redesigned Armor
Flex Hinge that provides smoother opening and closing while enhancing the
device's long-term reliability. Despite packing premium hardware, the phone
measures just 4.1mm thick when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded,
while weighing only 215 grams, making it one of the slimmest and lightest
book-style foldable smartphones available today.
The display experience has also received major improvements.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features a 6.5-inch anti-reflective cover
display with up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, ensuring excellent
visibility even under direct sunlight. Both the cover display and main
foldable display support an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, delivering
smoother scrolling, more responsive gaming, and an overall premium viewing
experience. Samsung's anti-reflective coating further reduces glare,
making the screen easier to use outdoors while maintaining vibrant colors and
sharp visuals.
Powering the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is Qualcomm's
latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor. Built specifically
for flagship Galaxy devices, the chipset delivers significant improvements in AI
processing, gaming performance, multitasking, power
efficiency, video editing, and thermal management. Combined
with Samsung's software optimizations for foldable devices, users can
comfortably run multiple apps side by side, making the large foldable display
an ideal productivity tool.
Battery life has also been upgraded with Samsung's largest
battery ever included in a Galaxy Z Fold smartphone. The device is equipped
with a 5,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, offering higher energy
density, improved efficiency, and longer battery life without
increasing the phone's thickness. Samsung claims the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra
can charge from 0% to 67% in approximately 30 minutes using fast
charging, allowing users to spend less time plugged in and more time using
their device.
Photography is another major highlight of the Galaxy Z
Fold8 Ultra. Samsung has equipped the phone with a versatile triple-camera
system led by a 200MP main camera capable of capturing exceptional
detail, improved dynamic range, and enhanced AI-powered image processing.
The 50MP ultra-wide camera offers a broader field of view while
improving edge sharpness for landscapes and group photos. A 10MP telephoto
camera with 3x optical zoom allows users to capture distant subjects
with greater clarity while also producing detailed portrait shots. For selfies
and video calls, Samsung includes a 10MP cover camera and a 10MP
under-display front camera, both supported by AI enhancements for
better image quality.
Samsung has also enhanced its popular Nightography
technology, allowing users to capture brighter and clearer videos in low-light
environments. The upgraded Nightography Video mode reduces image
noise, preserves natural facial expressions, and delivers improved clarity
during nighttime recording, making it especially useful for content creators
and users who frequently shoot videos after sunset.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra also expands Samsung's Galaxy
AI ecosystem with intelligent features designed to improve everyday
productivity. Users can take advantage of AI-powered writing assistance,
Live Translate, advanced photo editing, AI image generation,
Circle to Search, note summarization, and smarter multitasking
across the large foldable display. These AI features make it easier to
work, create, communicate and manage daily tasks without switching between
multiple devices.
Samsung is offering the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra in three
storage configurations, including 256GB storage with 12GB RAM, 512GB
storage with 12GB RAM, and a top-end 1TB storage with 16GB RAM for
professionals and power users who require maximum storage and performance. The
smartphone will be available in four premium color options: Violet Shadow,
Graphite, Cream, and Green Shadow, each featuring
Samsung's refined matte finish.
